The Right Timing

One of my all time favorite verses in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 3:1 which says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (KJV). Isn’t it so reassuring to know that everything has its own season? That means the good, the bad, and everything in between! As reassuring as it is, we have all come to places in our lives where we don’t really like the season in which we find ourselves.

We long to get to the end of tunnel, without caring too much about learning and receiving the wisdom that comes along the way. If you have lived long enough, you know that there can be moments within these seasons where patience just seems to go right out the door. There are goals and dreams that we want to achieve and visions that we want to see come to pass but we become impatient. If we are not careful, we can get ahead of ourselves and attempt to speed up the season we are in if we feel like our desired outcome isn’t coming fast enough. Ironically, this can lead to prolonged time spent in that season or even added trouble that could have been avoided.

In the Bible there is a story where God promises Abraham and Sarah that they would have a child. What was significant about this story is the fact that Abraham and Sarah were already really old in age (talk about a weird season) so their age caused Sarah to doubt the word of the Lord. Although God had made this promise to them, they eventually got to a point where they apparently thought God was taking too long with His promise so they decided to take matters into their own hands. Sarah tells Abraham to have a child with her servant, Hagar, and that’s when the trouble begins. You see, after Abraham and Sarah eventually have their child, the son of Hagar would mock Sarah’s child. The Bible says the “son of the bondwoman persecuted the son of the free woman”. That use of words sticks out to me because it lets me know that every time we try to get ahead of God’s timing, it will be a stumbling block to the things God has promised us.

So be careful when you are tempted to take matters into your own hands you might produce something that could be a hindrance. to your promise! I will remind you of another powerful verse from the same chapter in the opening verse. It is Ecclesiastes 3:11 which says “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…”. You can be at peace when you trust that God already has an answer to every question, problem, or desire that you have. All you have to do is wait on His time.
